Here is our little van in its prime position. We have taken up James’ suggested naming for the van: Camper Campersson.
Back into bed to warm up again. When Eve andLeo woke up we went over to the other side of the river to see the Jokulsarlon Lagoon. The icebergs are so stunning and incredibly colourful.
Then we set off for our longest drive so far - 4 hours. The scenery was amazing and we listenedto the Adam Buxton podcast for entertainment. There were a couple of near misses with sheep.
There are loads of these single carriageway bridges to deal with
I must stress this is the MAIN ROAD around Iceland.
We stopped at another waterfall - can’t remember its name.
Then the drive became a bit hair raising. It was incredibly steep and we were soon in cloud on grit roads with hairpin bends. I am a pretty confident driver but there were a few moments where I questioned my sanity (don’t worry I wasn’t taking these pictures!).
The van needs a clean after all of that!
We eventually arrived at Seydisfjordur campsite and explored the village. It is very colourful and artsy, but the drizzle took the edge off its charm. We went to a couple of shops and galleries.
I particularly enjoyed the quirkiness of the Technical Museum. Rooms full of old machinery and one rather weird mannequin which made me shriek!
I am feeling really tired today and finding it a bit of a challenge to keep everyone’s spirits up in the drizzle. Hopefully I will perk up after cooking some dinner and thrashing the kids at Monopoly Deal.
